The space is casual, with outdoor seating, and a small bar for patrons to partake in local beers and the occasional frozen cocktail. The menu hasn’t been released, but you can keep up on Facebook.

Menu for Bar Normandy | Erin Perkins

Welcome, Bar Normandy

Broad Street institution Normandy Farm Bakery has been a staple for the South of Broad set for years. Lawyers, tourists, and neighbors depend on the shop for coffee, lunch, and baked goods. Now, Normandy Farm wants you to think of them for an afternoon snack of Rocky Nook oysters and a glass of gamay. From 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily (though, Saturday may get nixed), Normandy Farm will feature Bar Normandy.

Chef Alex Lira has created a small, affordable, ever-changing menu of snackable plates, like baccala or a salad of lunchbox peppers and potatoes. The first menu, introduced yesterday, leans Spanish. Lira says he also took some time away from Normandy recently to study the oyster programs in New York City at Achilles Heel and Maison Premiere, both heavy-hitters in the NYC food scene.

Former FIG server Philip Michael Cohen runs the beverage program, which includes well-curated wines and inexpensive local beers (plus a $2 PBR). Fans of Cohen’s appearances on Charleston podcast Effinbradio will appreciate the touch of humor added to the wine listings, which describes a muscadet as, “Crisp, lean, mineral driven white that’s been in a healthy relationship with oysters for years.”

During the day, stop by 19 Broad St. for the normal staples of coffee and chocolate cake, after 3:00 p.m., stop by for thoughtful plates and booze (though, they will pour you a beer before 3:00 p.m.).

Umbrella drinks included

Get out the flip flops and sarongs because Cane Rhum Bar & Caribbean Kitchen wants patrons to chill in an island atmosphere with a few rum drinks. The East Bay Street restaurant opens next week, but gave Eater a sneak peek before unlocking the doors.

Chef/owner Paul Yellin welcomes guests to try Cane on August 2. Once inside, they'll see that the space has completely transformed from its former life as dive bar Big John's Tavern. The bar and dining rooms are bright, lively, and inviting. Yellin, along with marketing consultant Austin Walker and bar manager Jeff Chaffin, took on the challenge of renovating the fire-ravaged building and turning it into an image that conjures vacationing in Barbados.

The group scoured thrift stores and Yellin's home for all the interior details. They even found a worn ship's bow, now a service bar, on the side of the road. The crew reused salvageable wood left over from Big John's in details around the space — you can still spot old stickers and graffiti in a few places. The kitchen opens up into the dining room, and it is wide open. Patrons can see everything from prep to the dish pit.

Once the doors unlock, Cane will open Tuesday through Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, and Friday through Saturday, 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. To see the full menu, click over here.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Beer lovers Sean Geddis and Matty Symons are almost ready to premiere Two Blokes Brewing at 547 Long Point Rd. in Mount Pleasant.
A new option for breakfast and lunch at the beach

After a stint working for Tom Colicchio in New York, chef Air Casebier returned to Charleston and in 2015 to launch her catering business Feast. During 2014, Casebier prepared meals for small events and then saw a greater need for sustainable, local product catering. Feast grew due to that increased demand, and Casebier dedicated a crew for larger parties and constantly took on new clients.

Now, the concept has evolved into a brick-and-mortar establishment on Isle of Palms. Located at 1028 Carolina Blvd., Feast offers a cheery spot to sample Casebier's work, Tuesday through Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Like with the catering business, Casebier emphasizes fresh and local. The menu offers a daily baked egg dishes, roast cauliflower and kale salad, farm egg sandwich with spiced tomato jam and bacon, avocado tartine, roast pork sandwich with arugula pesto, and more.

Below is the entire menu from Feast's website.
