6 Raleigh Ice Cream Shops to Beat the Heat
Waffle cones, secret soft serve, and all the toppings

Fresh
Since 2011, Fresh sources North Carolina dairy for its four locations in the Triangle. Flavors like Midnight Brownie Crunch and cookie dough are crowd favorites, and Fresh also serves up old-school classics like a root beer float and hot fudge sundaes.
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
Jeni’s has locations across the country, and its new Raleigh location is a welcome addition to the ice cream scene. Now open in the Village District, the shop serves quirky flavors like Brambleberry Crisp or Gooey Butter Cake. The homemade waffle bowl is, like Jeni’s name, splendid.
Two Roosters Ice Cream
With four locations and a truck for special events, Two Roosters has quickly become a sweet tooth’s favorite in Raleigh. The brainchild of Jared Plummer, Two Roosters delivers a menu of permanent flavors and rotating guest flavors. The shop is also known for its delicious collaborations that support other local businesses. Sola cinnamon doughnut or coffee bourbon made with Slingshot Coffee are permanent menu items worth a try. Budget tip: The $8 pint is well-deserved after waiting in line.
Goodberry's Frozen Custard
Goodberry’s is truly a Raleigh staple, and the frozen custard is the perfect base for its famous Carolina concrete. Mix-in toppings include usual suspects like Oreos, strawberries, chocolate chips, and walnuts. The result is a thick, decadent treat. Plus, it’s fresh: Goodberry’s churns a new batch of custard on site every hour at all nine locations.
Videri Chocolate Factory
The beloved local chocolate factory has a secret side window scooping soft serve. Quality over quantity is the name of the game — choose from vanilla or chocolate, or both, for a swirl. Videri offers an array of homemade toppings like toffee, granola, and mocha fudge, plus the limited-edition chocolate cowboy hat topping is worthy of an Instagram story. Videri won’t break the bank, either — a small soft serve is just $4.
Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery
Wolfpack fans hold a special place in their hearts for Howling Cow. The ice cream is sourced from North Carolina State University’s 329-acre dairy farm, and you can grab a scoop right on-site. There’s also pints and to-go cups available in bulk ($24 for 24 cups). Original flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry are all great options.
