Cooking competition show Top Chef returns for season 21 on March 20, and there’s a North Carolina chef in the mix. Savannah Miller, the current chef de cuisine at M Tempura (111 Orange Street, Durham), is one of the 15 contestants joining the reality show. This year, the chefs are competing in Wisconsin (yes, there’s lots of talk of cheese in the sneak preview).

Miller is from Southern Pines, North Carolina, and attended the New England Culinary Institute. She joined Durham’s M Tempura (111 Orange Street) for the opening in 2018. The Japanese restaurant is one of many of chef Michael Lee — he also runs popular spots M Sushi (311 Holland Street), M Kokko (311 Holland Street, Suite B), and M Pocha (101 E. Chapel Hill Street).

Miller also helped open Research Triangle restaurant Glasshouse Kitchen (5 Laboratory Drive) in 2022.

The new season of Top Chef will premiere at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, on Bravo The winner takes home the $250,000 grand prize, a feature in Food & Wine, and an appearance at the  Food & Wine Classic in Aspen.
