After 15 years in the kitchen at esteemed Charleston restaurant FIG (232 Meeting Street), executive chef Jason Stanhope is stepping down from his position to pursue “a new chapter in his career,” according to a statement from FIG co-owner Mike Lata.
Lata also writes, “Jason’s departure is bittersweet, as we will all miss him dearly, but I’m excited to see him take on a new challenge and continue to thrive. We have an incredible culinary team in place and we will embrace this opportunity to mentor the next generation of leaders. I have always preached to my cooks that change is necessary for growth and I’m excited for the next chapter at FIG.”
Stanhope joined FIG in 2008. He was named executive chef of the Meeting Street restaurant in 2014 and promptly won a James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Southeast in 2015.
Stanhope has not made a statement on what is next for him.
