Charlotte Wine Bar Bibilio Closes to Make More Space for Tasting Menus

The last day for Biblio will be Saturday, December 9

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

Chef/restaurateur Sam Hart announced on social media and email yesterday that Wesley Heights wine bar Biblio (2001 W Morehead Street, Charlotte) will close down on Saturday, December 9.

Hart’s neighboring restaurant, Counter, will take over the former Biblio space. The tasting menu/music pairing experience at Counter is in high demand, especially after Hart was nominated for a 2023 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast.

With the popularity of Counter, it only makes sense to expand its footprint. “The reception and growth of Counter has blown away all our expectations,” says Hart, “Unfortunately, as one concept grows into its next chapter, we have to press pause on another.”

Biblio opened as an “unpretentious wine bar” in December 2022. It was meant to flip the tradition of pairing wines with food by instead pairing foods with wine. Customers ordered a wine and the kitchen created a small plate to go with the glass or bottle.

With the expansion of Counter comes a new addition to the restaurant that the team is calling the “Archive” experience, which will feature “an approachable tasting menu featuring the restaurant’s best hits.”
