NBA legend Dwyane Wade teamed up with winemaker Pahlmeyer for his own label Wade Cellars in 2014, and now he wants to celebrate the work of Black sommeliers and chefs across the country with the wine-centric dinner series When We Gather. In Charleston, Wade Cellars ambassador George Walker III will stop by Graft Wine Shop on October 13, 2022, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for a bar takeover with owner Femi Oyediran.
In addition to some great bottles, Gullah Geechee chef Benjamin “BJ” Dennis will be on hand to serve bites to pair with the selections. Dennis is a staple of the Charleston community spreading his knowledge of Gullah Geechee culture and cuisine across the nation. Dennis started in fine dining restaurants, but now he’s spotted at pop-ups, private events, and appearances on shows such as the Netflix series High on the Hog.
