James Island’s Micho Hands Over Container Kitchen to Root Note

Owners David and Tina Schuttenberg concentrate on new projects

The owners of Sichuan restaurant Kwei Fei, David and Tina Schuttenberg, opened Mexican-American restaurant Micho in May 2020, but they have decided to close the concept and hand the container kitchen over to Root Note, which creates street food with international influences.

“We were gaining traction, and watching things grow, and I was really loving the food we were making, but with labor challenges looming, we decided to offer the kitchen up to new operators Root Note,” says David, “It will allow Tina and I to focus on our next project a bit more, and the container at Pour House will be able to better serve their guests as well. Kind of a win for everyone.”

Micho opened in a ship container behind the Pour House with the goal of bringing tacos, tortas, tostadas, and border dogs to Charleston. The food was based on Tina’s mother and grandmother’s recipes, as well as items that the Schuttenbergs missed from living in Arizona. The birria tacos were so good that workers from a nearby Mexican restaurant were spotted ordering them.
