Downtown Basil’s Final Dinner Service Is Tonight

One last night for pad thai

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

On February 19, Eater Carolinas disclosed that the 460 King Street location of Thai restaurant Basil would shutter when its lease ended in May — now there is confirmation from the eatery’s management that tonight will be the final evening for the downtown mainstay. Open for takeout only at this point, Basil has served Charleston since 2002.

Moving the timeline up to March, from May, comes as a bit of a surprise to everyone. The Basil locations in Mount Pleasant and Park Circle will remain open.

Now, anyone craving pad thai downtown will need to travel off the peninsula. Though, the owners of Ti-Ney Bangkok in West Ashley recently told Eater Carolinas that they expect to expand to a downtown location at 200 Meeting Street, Unit 2, in the former site of Maui Tacos (or Dunkin’ Donuts if you go back a few years). The new location will go by Thai Zapp and is expected to open in April.
