Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, visited Raleigh, North Carolina on Sept. 28 and stopped by microbrewery/restaurant Trophy Brewing Company. The company is known for using vintage trophies for displays, tap handles, and overall decoration. Harris presented the co-owners Chris Powers, David Woody Lockwood, David Meeker with an MVP trophy for their new case. Right before the COVID pandemic, the team renovated the 827 West Morgan Street location to include a built-in trophy case. Harris’ gift would be the first one to go into the display.

Powers wrote on Facebook:

Tonight, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kamala Harris and her team to Raleigh and were given the chance to share the Trophy Brewing Company story with her. We told her what it’s like to be in the restaurant business during a pandemic, and what we hope for our community. She is genuine, down to earth and a force to be reckoned with. I got to speak to her about our Allyship project and the work we and our friend Natasha Powell Walker are putting into it. She also brought us the first trophy for our new trophy case. We will treasure that trophy for years to come.

Powers posted a photo of the trophy and a Facebook fan asked, “Does MVP stand for ‘My Vice President’?”

Harris was in Raleigh to speak at Shaw University. As expected, she spoke against the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court and the potential effects to the American health care system.
