‘Top Chef’ Alum Opens Upscale Seafood Restaurant in Charleston

Take a tour of the space here

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

Starting this evening, Friday, August 14, the group behind Market Street restaurant 5Church will open its newest space Tempest. Located in the former Queology and Market Street Salon spots at 32C N. Market Street, the 5th Street Group has completely transformed the address to reflect a vision of an upscale seafood restaurant.

Tempest features dining rooms on the first and second floors, with a small patio area, and a seated bar. The space is full of blonde wood, comfy banquets, and thoughtful nautical touches. The downstairs is anchored by a massive stained glass instillation on the ceiling commissioned from local Charleston artist Honey McCrary.

Chef partners Jamie Lynch (of “Top Chef” fame) and Adam Hodgson put out a menu full of high-end seafood items like local shrimp, king crab legs, chilled lobster with allium aioli, monkfish liver mousse, and more. The raw bar selections can also be cooked over a charcoal fire, if customers prefer that version.

Tempest opens tonight at 5 p.m. Take a look around here before visiting.
