Late Show host Stephen Colbert went down to Charleston, South Carolina, during the recent Democratic Debate to met up with Senator Elizabeth Warren at Southern staple Husk. They sat upstairs in the bar building, and Colbert showed off some favorite foods from his hometown of Charleston.
Colbert asked Warren: “Are you prepared for South Carolina food?” “I’m prepared. I’m ready,” she replied. To which Colbert joked, “It’s very rich — you’re going to want to tax it.”
The duo dined on raw oysters, boiled peanuts, hush puppies, smoked ribs, cornbread, whole fish, and a lot more.
Husk’s general manager Jen Bresnahan told Eater, “We worked with Colbert to select a menu of quintessential Charleston dishes, such as pimento cheese and shrimp and grits, alongside Southern staples to honor his childhood memories, such as boiled peanuts and shrimp paste.”
After the meal, Colbert and Warren went down to the bar to chat with South Carolina voters. Watch the video here.
