Looking for a boozed-up lunch with a side of ramen? Or a yakatori snack with a side of local beer? King Street bar Proof can accommodate on Wednesdays through Fridays, as it has recently invited ramen pop-up 2Nixons to serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on those days.

Starting this week, customers can stop by for pork belly yakatori, grilled spicy shrimp, blue crab shio ramen, and more.

In addition to the lunch menu, the bar will be open with a limited cocktail menu, beer, and wine.

Proof owner Craig Nelson said that he’s been asking 2Nixons owner Jeffrey Stoneberger to offer lunch at the bar for years, but now it’s a bit of a necessity. Per South Carolina COVID rules, bars and restaurants are required to close at 11 p.m. — this takes extra hours of revenue away from bars that previously stayed open until 2 a.m. Opening at 11 a.m. allows Nelson to have extra hours to keep his bartenders employed.

“We were already doing prep work here during the day, so it just makes sense,” said Nelson.

Because the bartenders are utilizing the bar area to prepare ingredients for the evening, lunch is only table service, with social distancing observed. The menu is also available for takeout.
