Tasty Thai & Sushi Shuttered After Almost 10 Years on King Street

No more Charleston rolls

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

After almost a decade at 350 King Street, Tasty Thai & Sushi appears to have cleared out. All of the tables and chairs are gone. The name of the restaurant is scrubbed away from the windows and awning. A bartender at neighboring Asian restaurant Co says that employees at Tasty Thai & Sushi were asked to pick up their final checks last weekend.

Tasty Thai & Sushi opened in November 2009. The restaurant was known for its extensive menu of Thai dishes and sushi rolls. Many customers went for the lunch specials or the cheap happy hour.

The closing of Tasty Thai & Sushi could be another case of rising rents on King Street. While stalwarts like La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant are gone, pizza place Gilroy’s, Korean spot Mama Kim’s, and Kickin’ Chicken remain.

What will be next for 350 King Street? Probably another chain store, but we’ll keep an eye out.

Update: Tasty Thai & Sushi confirms the shutter on Facebook:

Yesterday, Aug. 29, 2019, was the last day of operation for our business. We'd like to thank the City of Charleston for all the love you've shown us since 2008. It's been a pleasure serving you.
