It looks like Oxford-based chef John Currence is very close to opening the Charleston outpost of his morning meal restaurant Big Bad Breakfast. Currence took to Instagram to show off a peek at the interiors and writing, “Hey, Charleston. @bigbadbreakfast_chs is crawling across the finish line. Final stages of hiring happening now. If you know anyone who wants to be part of a motivated, fun culture, put@out killer food and work amazing hours, send them by to see us! So excited to be here!!!”
The Lowcountry outpost of his award-winning eatery sits at the former address of the shuttered Simply Fashions at 455 Meeting Street.
Back in 2018, when the announcement came out, Currence noted that his only apprehension was moving into the same town as Hominy Grill chef Robert Stehling. With the recent closure of the Southern staple, Big Bad Breakfast might be the new spot for grits-hungry tourists and locals.
