St. John-Based Restaurant Expands to Sullivan’s Island

Look for Longboard in 2020

Plate at the Longboard

Rumors swirled over the weekend that Sullivan’s Island eatery 450 Pizza Joint closed, but before anyone officially confirmed the shutter, another restaurant has staked claim on the 2213-B Middle Street location. Caribbean bar and restaurant the Longboard will open at the beach address in 2020.

The Longboard’s original store opened in 2015 in the U.S. Virgin Islands on St. John. Owners Clint Gaskins and Tyler Beckstead originally hail from Charleston.

The food pulls inspiration from the islands with an emphasis on seafood, tropical produce, and coastal flavors. A glance at the St. John’s menu shows multiple selections of ceviches and poke bowls, grilled fish tacos, lobster tacos, island wings, and more.

The bar will have plenty of tropical drinks, including frozen cocktails.

Longboard culinary director/partner Kenny Claxton will oversee the Lowcountry menu, but is searching for an executive chef for the Sullivan’s Island outpost of the Longboard.

Look for the Longboard to open early 2020.
