Industry Vets Join Forces to Bring Chili Dogs to James Island

Look for Bar George in October

Coming in October, James Island residents will have a chance to settle next to the Terrace Theater for oysters, crudos, and chili dogs. Forthcoming Bar George takes over the former Bowties JI Speakeasy space at 1956 Maybank Highway.

First reported in the Post & Courier, the project comes from former Bar Normandy chef Alex Lira (while a partner in this project, Lira is currently the executive chef for the forthcoming taperia Estadio on Spring Street), Chico Feo chef Hank Weed, and artisan John Griffiths. Bar Normandy alum Philip “Surfer Phil” Lawrence III joins as the Bar George chef.

Lira says that in addition to the chili dogs and raw fish, he’s excited about the drink offerings at Bar George. Since the restaurant neighbors brown-liquor-heavy Paddock & Whisky, the upcoming addition will offer lighter drinks with tequila, gin, mezcal, and rum —Lira says frozen drinks might even make an appearance at Bar George.
