Temperatures are up, and it’s officially summer in Charleston. Chefs, restaurateurs, and investors are as busy with more new restaurants and bars coming this way. As always, Eater is obsessively tracking the progression of all the premiers—from menu releases to newly installed signage, come here for the latest updates. This list encapsulates the places garnering excitement this season.
BIG BAD BREAKFAST
Location: 455 Meeting St, Downtown
Key Players: Chef John Currence
Projected Opening: 2019
Last year, Big deal Oxford-based chef John Currence announced that he wanted to bring his morning-heavy restaurant Big Bad Breakfast to Charleston. The Eastside restaurant will feel more like an old-school diner with more traditional American breakfast fare with a “cheffy” spin.

ESTADIO
Location: 122 Spring St., Downtown
Key Players: Owner/sommelier Max Kuller and chef Alex Lira
Projected Opening: Summer 2019
In 2018, Washington, D.C., favorite Estadio announced a second location in Charleston. The contemporary Spanish-style restaurant is part of a new mixed-use development on the site of a former church. One difference in the locations will be the integration of Carolina Gold rice into the paellas and other rice-based dishes.

DELANY OYSTER HOUSE
Location: 115 Calhoun St., Downtown
Key Players: Neighborhood Dining Group (NDG) and chef Shamil Velazquez
Projected Opening: Mid-summer 2019
Forthcoming NDG restaurant plans to showcase local fishermen and oyster harvesters with Delany Oyster House. The restaurant will have a six-seat bar and outdoor patio downstairs with the main dining room sitting upstairs, where patrons can also find an outdoor seating area that overlooks Marion Square. This will be the first NDG project to open since Sean Brock’s departure.
JACKRABBIT FILLY
Location: 4628 Spruill Ave., Park Circle
Key Players: Shuai and Corrie Wang, Matt and Angie Tunstall, and Jason Croxall
Projected Opening: Mid-summer 2019
Former food truck Short Grain will open a permanent location soon as Jackrabbit Filly. The restaurant will start with dinner service and eventually add lunch and brunch. Lunch will look like the menu from the Short Grain food truck with rice bowls like the “O.G.” chirashi as the main attraction. At dinner, the kitchen will focus on Chinese dishes on the hot side and Japanese raw bar items on the cold side. Brunch might come in the from of dim sum.
