Take a Tour Through the New Hot Chicken Spot on Johns Island

With a side of soft serve

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

Johns Island restaurant Kinfolk opened last week with Nashville hot chicken, smoked meats, and soft serve ice cream.

Early Instagram comments place Kinfolk in the Best chicken in town” category.

Located at 4430 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy., the restaurant is the work of co-owners/brothers Joe and Kevin Nierstedt. The pair grew up on James Island and have worked in kitchens from New York to the Caribbean.

The vibe is casual roadside kitchen with colorful interiors and counter service. Eater contributor and hot chicken expert Robert Donovan gave the spicy offerings a thumbs up on a recent visit and came back with photos of the restaurant and the plates. Take a look around here if you haven’t already visited yet — the Johns Island eatery will open with more hot chicken tomorrow — Tuesdays are the staff’s day off, since many Johns Island restaurants are shut on Mondays.

Kinfolk opens every day except Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
