This Nashville hot chicken craze has cooled off a bit since KFC gave it a try, but Charleston kitchens were inconsistent in the spicy offerings. Now it appears that mouth-burning poultry will be a regular menu item at Johns Island newcomer Kinfolk.

Located at 4430 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy., the restaurant focuses on fried chicken, smoked meats, seasonal side dishes, and soft-serve ice cream. Co-owners/brothers Joe and Kevin Nierstedt grew up on James Island and have worked in kitchens from New York to the Caribbean. This is their first restaurant together.

The casual chicken spot will also serve beer and wine. The co-owners help to draw in vacation crowds from Kiawah Resort, as well as local families.

Kinfolk opens every day except Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, the restaurant will close at 5p.m., this Sunday, June 16. Take a look at Kinfolk’s Instagram page for previews of the fare.
