This past Monday, May 6, Savannah chef Mashama Bailey won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Southeast for Savannah restaurant the Grey. Today — she’s back at the helm running her eatery at 109 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
Her team posted the above photo of her — with her medal — in the dining room at the Grey with the following caption:
So, a day after her return from Chicago, Mashama is hard back at work as if nothing happened. Oh, except for the fact that she’s got some new bling in the form of a James Beard Foundation Medal for Best Chef - Southeast. Everyone at The Grey is so proud of her (and each other). As she said in her her acceptance speech on Monday evening, “We should all be very proud of ourselves. We are moving this country forward in the right direction... none of us would be in this room without a team, and my team is amazing. They worked hard. I know you’re watching, I love you all so much.” She was right, we were watching and we love you too Mashama. SO MUCH!!!
Bailey’s expression is like, NBD, just hanging out with my JBFA and some Excel sheets.
