Charleston entrepreneurs Joel Sadler and Allyson Sutton want to bring a new coffee shop/retail space/hangout to 125 1⁄2 Line Street. Named Sightsee, the space will sell Springbok coffee and espresso drinks, tea, books, bags, and “travel-inspired products from small brands around the country.”
Sadler and Sutton are asking for help from the community via a Kickstarter campaign. Sutton writes, “The Kickstarter campaign will help us fund large costs associated with the coffee counter build-out, including the coffee bar construction, plumbing, equipment / machines, etc.”
The couple contends that Sightsee isn’t just a coffee shop. It’s a way to keep Charleston unique. They explain on their website:
This is not just a passion project. We mean business. Sightsee was born out of deep conviction about brick-and-mortar retail and a burning desire to help shape the future of our beloved city, Charleston, SC. We believe that small, unique storefronts play an essential ingredient in the vibrancy and vitality of cities. Without local retail, our towns become urban malls with fancy food courts. And Charleston is especially at risk of that plight.
Sightsee plans to be open this summer.
