Soft Shell Crabs Spotted In Savannah

Is Charleston next?

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

Everyone freak out — the first softie of the season has landed on social media, and this time it’s in Savannah at the Grey Market. The Southern eatery is serving up soft shell po’ boys. “Kitchen tested, kitchen approved,” the Facebook caption reads.

Restaurateur Johno Morisano confirmed that these crabs came from south Georgia, so perhaps the softies will roll into the Lowcountry soon?

The Grey Market is the more casual sister of award-winning restaurant the Grey from chef Mashama Bailey. The space serves as a a Southern lunch counter mixed with a New York City-style bodega.

Eater hasn’t spotted any softies in Charleston yet, but once these crustaceans hit menus, it’s full-on mania for diners around town. As always, there will be a soft-shell map regularly updated for mass crab consumption. Last year, it seemed like everyone in town had a softie option for lunch or dinner.
