Tennessee-based barbecue empire Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint continues to grow with a new location planned for James Island. Pitmaster Pat Martin and his whole hog operation started in Nolensville, TN, in 2006, and now they will bring those smoked meats to the former Sermet’s Southernterranean Cuisine-Bar at 1622 Highland Avenue.

The restaurant is known for whole-hog barbecue, brisket burgers, broccoli salad, and plenty of pies.

In the press release, Martin says “I’ve been visiting Charleston several times a year for the last decade and have made many close friends in town. Like everyone else, I’ve fallen in love with the community and it’s an honor to be carving out our own little space here,” says Martin. “With deep ties to Charleston as locals themselves, my business partner, John Haire and our buddy, Chase Barton—who we’re partnering with for this location—introduced me to James Island. It’s a really cool community that naturally felt like home for a Martin’s.”

Look for the new outpost of Martin’s Bar-B-Que to open in April.
