A Dessert Camper Gets Ready to Roll Out in Charlotte

Plus other NC food and beverage news

Wentworth & Fenn/Facebook

From a mobile storefront, to an ax-throwing bar, to a food festival, here are North Carolina food and drink happenings to keep on the radar.

CHARLOTTE — According to their Facebook page, the creatives behind the new dessert camper called Wentworth and Fenn hope to launch their mobile storefront by the end of the month. The remodeled 1961 Shasta Camper will be positioned in front of Moxie Mercantile in Plaza Midwood as well as Esther and Elsa retail markets. Samantha Allen, former executive pastry chef for The Fig Tree Restaurant, created the camper concept with her wife, Cassie. Allen will be crafting custom cakes, gourmet baked goods like coffee custard tarts, asiago and chive scones, and more, to share with the community. The business is named for Wentworth and Fenn Streets in Charleston, SC — the city is the couple’s happy place.

ASHEVILLE Axeville, the first ax-throwing club to come to Asheville, is scheduled to open mid-March. The bar will be stocked with craft beers, ciders and wines. According to the website, “Axperts” will be available to coach newcomers through the throwing experience.

RALEIGH — Chefs Ashley Christensen of Ashley Christensen Restaurants and Vivian Howard of popular concepts including Chef & the Farmer were announced as headliners for the second Thrive NC food festival coming to downtown. The award-winning chefs were headliners last year as well, and will be leading cooking demonstrations during the May 2019 event. Thrive NC supports organizations that address food insecurity.
