Charlotte-Based Cantina Swings Open the Doors on East Bay

RuRu’s Tacos + Tequila expands to Charleston

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

Charlotte’s Hot Place For Swanky Tacos,” RuRu’s Tacos + Tequila, opened this week in Charleston at 159 East Bay St. The Lowcountry store mirrors the Charlotte version with tacos, queso, fajitas, burritos, and Jasmine rice bowls.

According to RuRu’s website, “Although it’s Mexican on the menu, RuRu’s draws inspiration from Latin, Korean, American and Greek fare ...”

Items on the menu have kitschy names from various movies and television shows, like “You go Glenn CoCo” from Mean Girls, “I’ll have what she’s having,” from When Harry Meet Sally, and “We were on a break,” from Friends.

If the hours of the Charleston store are the same as the Charlotte shop, then RuRu’s should be open on East Bay Street on Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
