James Beard Awards 2019 Restaurant & Chef Semifinalists for Charleston

This morning the James Beard Foundation released its list of semifinalists in the 2019Restaurant and Chef Awards. After the judges and committee members vote, this “long list” will drop down to five finalist nominees per category, to be announced on Wednesday, March 27, from a press conference in Houston. The James Beard Awards Gala, where the previously announced America’s Classics winners are also acknowledged, is scheduled for Monday, May 6, in Chicago. (Meanwhile, media awards winners will be revealed on Friday, April 26.)

Below, the full list of Charleston semifinalists. Congratulations to all the names and teams from the Lowcountry. Tune in next month to see how far they will go.

Outstanding Restaurant: FIG

Outstanding Restaurateur: Steve Palmer, The Indigo Road, (The Macintosh, Oak Steakhouse, Indaco, and others)

Outstanding Wine Program: Stems & Skins, North Charleston, SC

Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional: Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall, High Wire Distilling Company

Rising Star Chef: Evan Gaudreau, Renzo

Best Chef: Southeast:

Kevin Johnson, The Grocery

Jacques Larson, The Obstinate Daughter, Sullivan’s Island, SC
