Just as downtown Charleston gets a new Indian restaurant with Tu, Mount Pleasant also has an Indian addition with Coorg Indian Cafe. Entrepreneur Preethi Machaiah and her family opened the restaurant at 1440 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Suite #1300, earlier this year.

According to the website, the owners are from the Coorg region of southern India, also known as Kondagu. The family imports coffee from the Kodagu district for use in the cafe. “The coffee we are offering at Coorg Indian Cafe is of single origin,” states the website, “and since it is grown by our immediate family, we have absolute control on the quality of the bean.”

In addition to single-origin coffee, Coorg Indian Cafe also offers cocktails, beer, wine, small plates, and entrees. Spicy chicken, Coorg ribs, curry lentils, and more come with naan, cucumber salad, and rice.

The Mount Pleasant newcomer has a few reviews on Yelp, mostly with five stars, except for one comment about small portions.
