Charleston favorite Lewis Barbecue gears up for its third annual Lewis Chile Roast this Saturday, October 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. Join pitmaster John Lewis for a celebration revolving around his favorite ingredient, the Hatch green chile, brought in straight from Hatch, New Mexico.
The chile-themed afternoon will be filled with food, drinks, and special treats from restaurants and breweries in the area. Westside’s Daps Breakfast & Imbibe will bring a Holy City Hog Hatch chile pork cake topped with a sweet corn aioli and served slider-style on Hawaiian rolls. Bob Cook from Edmund’s Oast will serve chicken and rice with Carolina gold rice, pita, and a green chili chutney, while Renzo’s Evan Gaudreau will bring kabocha squash with Hatch chile XO. Oh, and Life Raft Treats from Cynthia Wong — look for her to serve a Hatch chile ice cream candy bar. Other participating restaurants include Grace & Grit, Jack Of Cups Saloon, Le Farfalle, Matzo y Masa, Minero, The Obstinate Daughter, Wild Olive, and Zia Green Chile Company. Revelry Brewing, Cathead Vodka, and Cannonborough Beverage Co. will also have chili-infused beverages on hand to sip while taking in the live music.
Don’t leave the afternoon bash empty-handed—attendees can pre-order one-pound bags of roasted chiles and pick them up at the event, which is free and open to the public.
