Find tuna crudo, wood-fired oysters, barbecue shrimp, and ribeyes at the Royal Tern at 3005 Maybank Hwy. Recently opened, the new Johns Island addition comes from former Coast chef David Pell and industry vets/brothers John and Ben Williams.

John told the Post and Courier that the group wanted to offer something unique to Johns Island. The Royal Tern is more upscale than the other seafood spots in the area with shellfish towers, a raw bar, and $30+ entrees.

The reviews for the Royal Tern are mostly five stars on Yelp, with customers in awe of the sleek, modern dining room and the well-prepared fish dishes — the yeast rolls, poke, and seared salmon seem to be early crowd favorites.

The Royal Tern opens Monday through Saturday with the bar at 4 p.m. and the dining room at 5 p.m.
