Jacksonville, FL, chef Chris Dickerson wants to bring pecan-wood-fired pizza to Savannah, GA, with Squirrel’s. The forthcoming pizzeria will sit at 2218 Bull St. and serve pies, sandwiches, salads, and small bites prepared in a custom wood oven.

Dickerson currently runs “Mexclectic” restaurant Corner Taco in Jacksonville. He is moving to Savannah to open Squirrel’s Pizza and be closer to his two-year-old son.

According to the chef’s bio, “When he’s not strategizing about his next restaurant endeavor or spending time with his son, Dickerson enjoys delving into some reading or testing out a new recipe in the kitchen, as long as it doesn’t require mayonnaise.”

He might have to compromise on that mayo thing if he’s serving sandwiches to a Southern crowd. Look for those small plates and pizzas (sans mayo) to be out this spring.

Keep up with all the test pies from Dickerson on the Squirrel’s Pizza Instagram account.
