James Island-favorite Sweet Belgium will expand to downtown Charleston in September. Titled Sweet Belgium Waffle Bar and Coffee, the second store is located at 424 King St., right next to Circa Lighting and the Booze Pop parking lot.
The original Sweet Belgium started in 2017 and sits at 327 Folly Rd. The main difference between the two stores will be the addition of a toppings bar to the downtown location. “We want to be able to offer more toppings, like ice cream, fresh fruit, and sprinkles,” owner Sergio Tosi tells Eater. He also says that the King Street location will stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays. Bar-hopping patrons will be able to soak up all that booze with a traditional Belgium waffle and a coffee drink.
There’s no set opening date just yet, but Tosi says they hope to be open in September. Stay tuned for more details as they come along.
