Black Tap Coffee Will Now Be Second State Coffee

A new look and a new name

Cult-favorite coffee shop Black Tap will lock the doors this evening and plans to reopen as Second State Coffee on Wednesday, May 23. “Same team, same coffee, different name,” co-owner Ross Jett writes in his email announcing the move. The email also explains,

When we started this company in 2012, we were just a few friends from college who wanted to find better iced coffee. Six years later, and we’ve discovered a new craft, new friends, and a new community. We couldn’t be more excited to broaden that community under the new brand of Second State Coffee.

The Black Tap building at 70.5 Beaufain St. recently received a new paint job, and the original Black Tap merchandise was starting to dwindle after recent sales on t-shirts and mugs — coffee enthusiasts should have expected a rebrand in the works.

Fans of the downtown coffee shop will have to wait until May 23 to see the changes, which don’t sound like much at all. Everyone will just have to practice saying “Second State” instead of “Black Tap.”
