The owners of Mount Pleasant’s Grace & Grit will add a lunch restaurant named The Grit Counter this week. The new midday addition takes over the former Welkin Coffee space at 320 Wingo Way. Manager Eli Kline told Eater a bit more about the decidedly Southern menu.
The chefs are excited about our Grit Bowls. We felt the bowl food trend lent itself perfectly for offering a fun and more lunch-friendly version of the grit-based dishes we feature at dinner. And for those who don’t care for grits, there will be the option to substitute our succotash or farro for a healthier option. Of course plenty other offerings as well!
The bowls range from “The Self-Respecting Southerner” with smoked pecan grits, fried chicken, collard greens, and tomato jam to the “The Two Southeasterns” with creamy grits, pho broth, pickled collards, shaved onions, bacon, and a fried egg.
Non-grit bowl items include a Southern egg salad sandwich, an oyster po’ boy, she crab soup, a grilled Caesar salad, and more.
Once open, The Grits Counter will serve lunch patrons on Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
