Shem Creek’s Saltwater Cowboys already missed earlier opening date predictions, but now barrels into final stretch of construction to debut at 130 Mill St. possibly by the end of February. The barbecue restaurant hired new staff and final restaurant inspections were scheduled for earlier this month.
The restaurant replaces the Cottage on the Creek with a complete makeover that includes a newly renovated rooftop bar, a long, second outdoor bar with TVs, main dining areas designed with light, rustic woods and nautical wall accents, a dog-friendly patio, and more than 60 feet of floating dock.
Onsite, pit smoked barbecue selections will join locally sourced seafood including catches from neighbor Captain Tommy Edwards’ shrimp boat, the Miss Judy Too.
Wade Boals and Brett Yearout are behind the project, joining forces with Joel Olindo, co-owner of Mt. Pleasant’s seafood and oyster bar Nico,
Executive chef Ryan Love oversees the menu that promises more than traditional barbecue and seafood favorites. A smoked pork and turkey, a hot and spicy sausage sandwich, Cheddar Creek biscuits served with strawberry bacon jam, house-made bread and butter pickles, barbecue shrimp and grits, and fried oyster bacon po-boys make the menu, as well as, the stacked high “trash can nachos.”
