Promising comfort food with a modern twist, Jacksonville, Florida-based Maple Street Biscuit Co. finally fulfills its long announced ambition of an expansion into Charleston.
The flaky buttermilk biscuit specialists will take over corner space “U” at the James Island Center at 1739 Maybank Hwy., not far from the Harris Teeter supermarket, The Post & Courier reports.
Formerly home to the shuttered James Island Cleaners, the site will be transformed into one of its almost two dozen “Community Stores,” as the brand likes to dub itself, highlighted by a compact menu served only at breakfast and lunch and never on Sundays.
An opening date has yet to be announced, but expect the full line of biscuits, including a sticky maple, the Squawking Goat with fried chicken and goat cheese, plus biscuits and sausage gravy, and entrees such as a vanilla bean waffle with Asiago and pecanwood smoke bacon baked in.
The comfort selections also extend to the sides, including bluegrass grits cut with cream cheese and the hashbrown cake stuffed with Gouda cheese.
