Sweet, Sweet Waffles Coming In Hot on Upper King

Take a look at the new Sweet Belgium

Popular James Island waffle shop Sweet Belgium opened its second location in a sliver of a space at 424 King St. Owners Sergio Tosi and Audrey Marques have run the 327 Folly Rd. since 2016 and decided it was time to expand to downtown.

Sweet Belgium serves traditional la gaufre found on the streets and in the shops of Belgium.

Tosi and Marques moved their family to Charleston from Belgium to “share their love” of the sweet treat.

The King Street shop offers espresso drinks, Belgian hot chocolate, and non-traditional drinks like an iced mojito coffee. Several ready made waffle doughnuts are available for purchase, like a maple bacon or peanut butter chocolate. The made-to-order waffles come with a choice of numerous toppings, from shredded coconut to vanilla ice cream to bacon crumbles — think of the Instagram possibilities.

Sweet Belgium is currently adjusting its schedule to see how the King Street crowds react to certain times, but you can find them open any day but Monday at 7:30 a.m.

Here are the menus.
