A James Beard Foundation award-winning chef heads to Leon’s Oyster Shop on Saturday, Oct. 27, to help debut his new cookbook and share bites of his fare. Chef Ignacio Mattos of New York’s Estela, Cafe Altro Paradiso, and Flora Bar just published Estela, showcasing his recipes for bold, comforting food and named for his European wine bar in New York City.

Leon’s creates some of Mattos’ classic dishes from Estela, such as the lamb ribs, endive salad, and oysters, for the crowd while the chef will be on hand to sign cookbooks and chat about the book.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $60, including a signed copy of the cookbook.

Mattos was born in Uruguay and learned to cook in the kitchens of grilling master Francis Mallman, Judy Rogers, and slow food legend Alice Waters. He moved to New York City in 2006 to become the chef of the NoHo’s Il Buco, then went on to open Isa in Williamsburg, where his adventurous cooking earned the restaurant a James Beard Award nomination for Best New Restaurant. Since he opened Estela, Cafe Altro Paradiso, and Flora Bar, Mattos earned four nominations in the James Beard Awards’ Best Chefs category.
