Mex 1 Slings Tacos in Mount Pleasant Today

Bring on the tequila

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

The Lowcountry has its third installment of taqueria Mex 1 Coastal Cantina with today’s opening at 1109 Park West Blvd., Mount Pleasant. As of 11 a.m. today, those in love with the restaurant’s tacos, quesadillas, and Baja bowls will have a third space to spread out into.

Mex 1 opened in West Ashley in 2012 with Mexican-inspired fare and plenty of margaritas. THe goal of the restaurant is to “to serve fresh, flavorful Baja Mexican fare and premium tequilas in a friendly, laidback, ‘come as you are’ atmosphere — a vibe that embodies the surfing and coastal lifestyle paralleled to the Baja Peninsula culture.”

The eatery unlocked its second store on Sullivan’s Island in 2016. There are also plans to expand downtown next to Tattooed Moose.

With all this expansion, it seems like the next step would be to take Mex 1 on the road — perhaps Columbia or Charlotte?

The Mount Pleasant restaurant opens seven days a week, at 11:00 a.m. every day. Check online for the full menu.
