At the end of 2015, the duo behind Short Grain food truck, Corrie and Shuai Wang, invited their chef pals to help heat up Charleston with bowls of deluxe noodles, with what was known as Ramen With Friends. With a break in 2016 for a James Beard dinner, Short Grain has decided to bring back the bowls this year with an event on Monday, January 8, with Rob Laudicina and RJ Moody of Spero. The event will pop up every Monday evening in January at the guest chef’s restaurants. The guests are a bit of a secret right now, so keep an eye on the Short Grain Instagram. Update: Eater Charleston has heard that Lewis Barbecue will be the location of the January 15 pop-up.
The Ramen With Friends idea popped up at The Daily two years ago with guest appearances from Jonathon Ory (Bad Wolf, Chicago), Michael Toscano (Perla, NYC), Blake Joyal (The Westendorff), Josh Walker (Xiao Bao Biscuit), Bob Cook (Artisan Meat Share), and Jason Stanhope (FIG). With a dearth of noodle soup options downtown, the event was an instant hit.
