Co-owners of waterfront eatery Fleet Landing, Tradd and Weesie Newton, announce that their newly formed restaurant group Rockit Hospitality will take over the previous Cypress address at 167 East Bay St. Since the shutter of the longstanding establishment in May, the big rumor around Charleston was that the Newtons were taking over, so it doesn’t come as a huge surprise. However, they are keeping tight-lipped on what sort of restaurant will go into the two-story space — though they promise it’s not a Cheesecake Factory or a Dave & Buster’s.
They also say that the upcoming Rockit Hospitality eatery will not be a copy of Fleet Landing. “This will be an different concept entirely,” says a representative for the group. But that’s as far as they go on releasing hints on what may take the place of Cypress.
Construction and demo starts at 167 East Bay St. next week, and the new restaurant should be ready to go by next summer.
