The Lowcountry community will come together to raise funds for chef Shane Whiddon’s family after his murder on Thursday, August 24, 2017. In addition to a GoFundMe page, two events are in the works to help bring in additional money for Whiddon’s wife and two young sons.
On Sunday, October 8, starting at 4 p.m., The Charleston Riverdogs open their baseball field for a fundraising picnic. For $20, attendees will have a chance to dine al fresco at the Joe Riley Stadium. Drinks and food will be available for purchase. Local bands Stoplight Observation, Lauren Hall and the Michael Martin Band will play. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Whiddon family. Tickets are available online.
On Monday, October 23, the Cedar Room will host a five-course dinner for $175, with all the proceeds going to the Whiddon family. According to Post & Courier, several chefs are lined up to cook, including Jason McKinney (French Laundry), Scott Crawford (Crawford & Son), Tim Morton (Mercantile & Mash), Daniel Zeal (Georgian Room), and Kristin Butterworth of (Lautrec). Tickets are available online.
On Saturday, September 30, Charleston Pour House will host an auction to raise money. Some items up for bids include tickets to Chef's Potluck at Middleton Place donated by Lowcountry Local First and a tasting menu for six at Charleston Grill. The event starts at noon and a $20 is suggested at the door.
