Where to next?

This morning, King Street passers-by noticed a sign in the window of five-month-old restaurant The Gentry Bar & Room declaring it is moving. The interiors are without the normal lunchtime customers this afternoon.

The sign reads: “Gentry Bar & Room is moving to a new location. We look forward to serving you there. For more information ... gentrybar.com” The website doesn’t have an updated address for the space.

A call to Gentry Hospitality reveals that the restaurant is moving, but they aren’t ready to disclose the new location yet. Gentry owner, John David Madison, said in a press release “the ownership of the building changed hands and when that happened the option for lease renewal became increasingly difficult. So much so that the decision to relocate the successful business became a necessity. We have loved the opportunity of serving Charleston and its fine visitors and look forward to opening our doors in a new location downtown very soon.”

Update: According to Post & Courier, The Gentry was evicted for owing $163,233 in “unpaid rent and associated fees.” Owner John David Madison is the subject of a current lawsuit for the sum.
