HUBWIDE — Poogan’s Hospitality (Poogan’s Porch and Poogan’s Smokehouse) set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for familiar face around town Lee Luke. Better known as Captain Lee to patrons of Salty Mike’s and others, Lee’s boat home was uprooted during Irma. Poogan’s is asking for donations to get the boat back. [EaterWire]
NOMO — On Monday, September 25, starting at 9 p.m, Edmund’s Oast will let local bartenders run the kitchen and Charleston chefs mix the drinks. The event titled Switcheroo puts mixologists Jayce McConnell (Edmund’s Oast), Adam Rothstein (Home Team BBQ), Sam Gabrielle (Proof), Jared Chafin (Indaco), Lane Becker (The Ordinary), and Nikki Fairman (FIG) in charge of the food menu, while chefs Bob Cook (Edmund’s Oast), Rob Laudicina (Spero), Shuai Wang (Short Grain), Vandy Vanderwalker (The Ordinary), Frank Lee (formerly of SNOB), Alex Lira (Bar Normandy), and Italo Marino (Embers and Ashes) will be behind the bar. It could be great — or it could be terrible. It will probably be fun though, and proceeds will benefit sobriety group Ben’s Friends. All items are a la carte, and tickets aren’t required. [EaterWire]
EASTSIDE — The Charleston chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International debuts its first Les Dames Culinary Academy on Saturday, November 11. The event acts as a primer for the holiday season with sessions like “How to Pull off a Holiday Dinner without Stress with Nathalie Dupree” and “How To: Cooking the Holiday Meal with Charleston Grill Executive Chef Michelle Weaver and Magnolias Executive Chef Kelly Franz.” There’s also baking, cocktail making, table setting and more. The day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and costs $175 per person. The Culinary Institute of Charleston will serve as the event’s campus. Tickets are available online. [EaterWire]
