Cuban food on King Street?

When Top Chef alum Emily Hahn announced she was leaving Warehouse, she assured fans that she would stay in Charleston. Yesterday on Instagram, Hahn dropped the info that she would be just a few blocks over from her former kitchen in a new restaurant/bar named The Getaway located at 541 King St.

On its website, The Getaway describes itself as a paladar, which is a term for privately owned eateries in Cuba serving home-cooked meals. Before joining Warehouse, Hahn specialized in empanadas as the Empanada Mamma. A paladar hints that those doughy pockets of deliciousness may be making a comeback to downtown Charleston.

Hahn will be joined by Genevieve Mashburn, who previously oversaw events at The Oyster Shed. Mashburn will be in charge the beverages at The Getaway.

The forthcoming Upper King cocktail bar already has a few photos on Instagram of the space, which looks a bit bare now but has ambitions to open this fall.
