Last night, Charleston got a taste of upcoming restaurant Tu at a ticketed pop-up event. Tu is the second restaurant from the team at popular Asian eatery Xiao Bao Biscuit. While the team has talked about space at 430 Meeting St., they haven’t said much about the food, other than it wouldn’t be another Asian restaurant.

Yesterday’s event presented a rough draft of potential menu items at Tu, including a tamago-style egg topped with caviar, yogurt topped with seasonal melons and crunchy legumes, and a pozole-stuffed croquette. The menu, full of many international influences, is below:

Previous to XBB’s opening in 2012, co-owners Duolan Walker-Li, Josh Walker and Joey Ryan tested their Asian comfort food with a series of pop-ups around Charleston. Ryan credits those events with the team being able to hone in the menu before the first night in the restaurant. They want to do the same for Tu, so look out for more chances to sample the food soon.
