Local chefs are buzzing about a new food truck on James Island and for good reason — it’s run by former FIG pastry chef Melanie Durant. Mobile kitchen Scram sells freshly baked crullers, cinnamon buns, egg sandwiches, and more at 1291 Folly Rd. in the Island Plaza parking lot. Durant says the breakfast-focused truck will set up Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. to noon (2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday) until the end of September.
“My husband [Gill Henry Durant] is helping in the window until we get help in a few weeks,” says Melanie, “For now, I'm baking all of the bread and treats early and then cooking all day.” She says it was time to move forward with more time and space to grow and learn, so Scram made sense, and it allows her more time to spend with her child.”
“We jumped, and now that it's here, we're in love,” she says, “And everyone likes to eat breakfast, right?”
