Tiki Makeover Spotted on Ann Street

Mai Tai time?

Tiki touches spotted.

If bamboo decorations and palm trees are any indication, then the former Wise Buck Smoked Meats space will soon be a tiki bar. Last summer, the first 23 Ann St. eatery premiered as sandwich shop Wise Buck Smoked Meats, as part of the Scarecrow & Co. row of restaurants, with chef Damon Wise at the helm.

Wise exited a few months into the project, and then Wise Buck Smoked Meats shuttered as the other two Ann Street spaces opened (Scarecrow and Feathertop).

The space has sat empty since the closing, but from the outside, it looks like restaurateur Jonathan Buckley is gearing up to make his tiki dreams come true. In September, he told The Post & Courier that he thought Mai Tais would go well in the space. Now the exterior of the former Wise Buck Smoked Meats is covered in string lights and palm trees with a hint at bamboo and other tropical tchotkes inside. Perhaps there will be an opening this summer?

Keep an eye here on opening dates, names, and more info.
