La Morra Pizzeria Departs for LA This Summer

Just last summer, Charleston pizza heads got to first experience naturally fermented dough and wood-fired pies from chef Zach Swemle and partner Marlee Blodgett. The team hustled the mobile wood-fired trailer La Morra Pizzeria to pop-up events all around town and sold out many nights. While crowds still gather for Swemle’s creations, he and Blodgett have decided to go west this summer to Los Angeles. They sent the following statement last night:

It is with much gratitude that we pass this note along to the community to announce our departure from Charleston come June. Since launching our business in July, we have been pleasantly overwhelmed by the graciousness and support of so many of our customers and surrounding industry friends. While a brick and mortar establishment is certainly next on our list and on the horizon, we have decided to put the wheels we built our Neapolitan oven on to use as we make the decision to head West. If we hadn't given up our tiny Brooklyn apartment one year ago, however, for a house with a backyard in Charleston-La Morra Pizzeria may not exist, so we will always cherish our time spent in this lovely city, watching a little idea we came up with after moving come to fruition. We hope you’ll follow our journey on @LaMorraPizzeria as we pack up and head to Los Angeles, making several stops for pop-ups with friends along the way. Stay tuned for details.

While we are checking off our final lists of things to see and do in Charleston, feeding as many of you as possible in two months remains at the top of our list-so, we’ve filled our schedule accordingly.
