When Black Bean Co. shut down at 869 Folly Rd., it left an opportunity for restaurateur/chef Thomas Smith to bring a casual breakfast and lunch spot to the area. “James Island needs good craft sandwiches,” said Smith, when he announced the venture, named Hen and The Goat, in August 2016. Yesterday, Smith released his brand of craft sandwiches and breakfast items to the city.

Open at 7:00 a.m., Hen and The Goat serves egg sandwiches, omelettes, the “Bill Murray” (a plate of two eggs, hash browns, tomato salsa, avocado, country ham, and cheddar), a smoked salmon bagel, and more. Switching to lunch service, the restaurant serves Cobb salads, fried chicken sandwiches, muffalettas, ruebans, po’ boys, and more.

Hen and The Goat opens from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
