Today marks the official grand opening of Virginia-transplant Rappahannock Oyster Company in the Cigar Factory space at 701 East Bay St. At 5:00 p.m., the doors to the restaurant will unlock so guests can indulge in oysters on the half shell, crab cakes with celery root slaw, steamed clams, chowder, and more.
Rappahannock got its start when brothers Travis and Ryan Croxton took over the family mollusk business and wanted a way to showcase their product and the work of other local purveyors. There are several Rappahannock eateries in Virginia and one in D.C., but Charleston will get its own today.
To celebrate the opening, Rappahannock will offer happy hour prices on oysters from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., as well as $5 glasses of draft rosé. Going forward, the restaurant will eventually add lunch and brunch services.
